Alphabet Soup Evaluation

Evaluation

For this brief I had to design 10 letterforms based upon the word 'shatter'. The letterforms had to be hand drawn and they had to be manipulations of a pre-exsisting typeface.
In my work I chose one font to work from and this was Helvetica in Bold, I chose this as i wanted a type that was quite weighted and plain so that I could create interesting shatter like effects from it.
In my experimentation/ development I mainly used cut out card , which I then photographed printed out and drew over using layout paper and fine liners.
Here are my ten final letterforms :

Then in groups we had to present our work and from this the group had to choose five they thought were the best at communicating the word shatter. Then we had to display these on the walls and then swap groups. Everyone then had to by process of elimination leave five letters upon the wall. None of mine had been left. In the end the best letter was left on the wall for each group.
I did quite like this process, and it showed you how well you where communicating your word. However I also felt it may of been a bit chaotic, and it didn't necessarily mean your work was bad or good .
This did leave me with some ideas of what I could of done better, I could of experimented with different existing typefaces and I could of used other materials. I would also say I needed to experiment with strokes and weights more.
