The BIGGER ideas

1. Did you find this interesting?
I found the workshop interesting, I liked having the freedom to develop such a big idea.
2. Was it useful in any way?
It helped me to think of more ideas and it also made me feel more creative.
3. Why?
Because it was such an open brief, and there where barely any limitations, which meant I was free to think.
4. Did you find it useful or difficult to collaborate
in a group scenario?
Our group actually split, I think this was because of a difference in opinion on the idea, also I prefer smaller groups, its easier to communicate.
5. How was the time limitation?
The time was I think too long for idea generation, our group where finished by 12/1ish.
6. Do you think it added to the creativity or not?
I think the fact we had that much time meant we didn't just go for our first idea and we could develop the one we chose.
7. Because we mentioned ‘multicultural’ did it create
issues?
The word did not cause issues, but it had a big influence on our final idea.
8. Was the issue of ‘age’ a negative? if so why?
The issue of age for me personally wasn't an issue as I could think of ideas for both adults and children, I don't think anyone in my group found it an issue.
9. What did you ‘like’ or ‘not like’ about this way
of doing a workshop?
I liked having no limitations, and I liked that we did not have to think about production. The only thing I didn't like was the timing of the workshop, I think it may of been better earlier on in the year.
10. Did having to edit your presentation to 8 boards
difficult to achieve?
We had created a lot of boards but many of them where to do with our different themes.
11. Why do you think we did this?
I think that we did this to explore idea generation, and encourage us to think bigger, and be more ambitious.

Self Evaluation Design Principles OUGD404

Self Evaluation
Design Principles
OUGD404

1.  What skills have you developed through this module and how effectively do you think you have applied them?
I have developed a more extensive knowledge of type. And I have been introduced and learnt thoroughly, colour theory and the use of a grid and layout. I have applied them in my design choices in all areas of this course.

2. What approaches to/methods of design production have you developed and how have they informed your design development process?
I have applied the use of grids and layout to my spread for the book I produced named ‘ Ten things’ I would also say I have focused more on the development skills required to design a spread e.g. I have drawn lots of thumbnails using various layouts and I can see how this is a good way of getting different ideas on a page and seeing what could work and what wouldn’t. I have also considered all my font choices, for headlines and copy, and I have thought further into colour.

3. What strengths can you identify in your work and how have/will you capitalise on these?

I would say my main strengths are the choice and understanding or type, and now I would say I have developed my grid and layout skills and I will be more confident in applying these to spreads and I will continue to try use thumbnail sketches.

4. What weaknesses can you identify in your work and how will you address these in the future?
A weakness of my work would be my depth of explanation on my blog tasks and the depth of documentation I would like to improve on.

5. Identify five things that you will do differently next time and what do you expect to gain from doing these?

  1.     Try to blog all session in more depth/ explanation, and at the time or just after the session. So that I keep up to date and I will know exactly what I am writing.
  2.    Plan ahead and book appropriate printing slots and consider binding more, so that it’s not a rush, and end products will have a more professional finish.
  3.      Come up with more solutions, to be able to have a range of choices.
  4.      Continue to experiment with grids and apply them to my own work.
  5.     Answer more questions and look further/ research further into certain topics so that I can continue to develop my own knowledge.
6.How would you grade yourself on the following areas:
(please indicate using an ‘x’)

5= excellent, 4 = very good, 3 = good, 2 = average, 1 = poor
